GoldWave Features

General Features

CD Player

Audio CDs can be played using the CD Player.

Device Controls

The Device Controls window provides easy access to audio devices. Realtime oscilloscopes can display amplitude graphs, frequency spectrums, "equalizer" bars, and spectrograms. Sounds can be quickly located using the rewind and fast forward buttons. Looping and playback regions can be set using the configurable playback button. Audio input monitoring displays input levels so they can be adjusted to avoid clipping.

Device Controls Setup

The Device Controls Setup window allows many features of the Device Controls window to be configured. Specific audio devices can be selected using the Input and Output buttons.

Distortion

The Distortion effect allows amplitude levels of a sound to be re-mapped using an arbitrary shape. Amplitude levels can be limited, expanded, or drastically altered.

Doppler

The Doppler effect allows dynamic control of the pitch over the entire selection.

Expression Evaluator

The expression Evaluator allows sound to be generated from almost any equation. For example, to generate a simple sine wave, the following can be entered:

sin(2*pi*f*t)
General expressions for sine, triangle, and square waves are already provided, plus expressions for dial tones, effects, and noises.

Tip: To speed up evaluation, enable RAM storage in Options | File before opening a file.

Save As

The Save as feature allows files to be converted to a wide variety of formats. Some examples of conversions include Sun .au to Microsoft .wav, 8-bit to 16-bit, mono to stereo, 16-bit .wav to 4-bit MSADPCM compressed .wav, and 8-bit Apple .AIFF to companded mu-law Sun .au.

Volume Shape

The Volume Shape effect allows dynamic control of the volume over the entire selection.
